Listening Time by Elizabeth Verdick

Daughter’s age when read: 3 years old

This was one of those books I randomly came across at the library and thought it looked good because my daughter has been having a hard time during circle time at school. Her teachers say she tends to fidget and not want to listen so we have really been working on that.  In this book they talk about the proper way to listen.  My daughter got really excited because she recognized a lot of the phrases and associated it with preschool.  One of the directions is to sit “criss cross applesauce” which is what her teachers say to do. They also use her favorite phrase from circle time”Zip it and lock it and put it in  your pocket” as you pretend to lock your lips together. She finds that hilarious.  So every time we read this book we reinforce that good listeners sit still and do not talk when the teacher is talking. Her teachers say they have seen an improvement which is awesome.  So if your little one needs some help listening this would be a great book to pick up.
